 What inspired your journey with this research?
CECILIA: I started working at CEED without knowing much about Dual Language Learners (DLLs), or students who are learning two or more languages simultaneously. As I learned what the term meant, I realized that I saw myself in the conversation between students and teachers. I come from a Spanish-speaking household and started to learn English at age 4 primarily from school. This encouraged me to continue learning and investigating how we can better encourage these students, especially knowing that DLLs do not have the same school outcomes as non-DLLs. Do you know what you'd like to do with your research in the future? CECILIA: I want to continue learning about the intersectionality of public health and education. I'm currently a senior studying health science pursuing a Master's of Public Health after graduation. My experience at CEED along with my coursework has shown me how important education is to achieve better health outcomes. I would love to use my experiences in the future to help fix inequities in education and health. Thank you, Cecilia, for sharing with us about your first publication.
